Private Well Water Testing Bottle Shuttle Suspended

Water testing bottles for private well owners are available in the lobby of the Municipal Administration office during regular office hours. Be sure to read the instructions included with each kit carefully. Samples are time sensitive.

Due to COVID-19, the courier pick up and delivery schedule for  water bottles from the Municipal office is suspended until further notice.

Water samples can still be dropped off at the following locations:

  • Public Health Ontario Laboratory at 99 Hospital Drive between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • Peterborough Public Health, 185 King Street, Peterborough.  Between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon on Fridays.

The well water testing service is available at no charge to all residents and cottagers in Trent Lakes through a program with Peterborough Public Health.

Construction Notice – Resurfacing County Road 507

Please be advised that the resurfacing of County Road 507 within the Municipality of Trent Lakes, from Salmon Lake Road northerly for approximately 3.09 km to Haliburton Boundary will commence the week of July 13th, 2020 with a duration of approximately four (4) weeks.

County Road 507 will remain open with temporary day time flagging operations. Please note that the above construction dates may fluctuate due to weather constraints and other factors. Every effort will be made by the County to keep the Municipality of Trent Lakes and residents informed of any significant changes.

Please circulate this notice to interested parties within your respective agencies.

Burn Ban Effective Tues. July 7, 2020

Effective July 7, 2020

Due to current dry weather conditions coupled with the continued
forecast of extreme temperatures with no appreciable rain in the
near future, the Municipality of Trent Lakes has issued an
immediate ban on all open air burning. This ban suspends
all approved Open Air Burning Permits.

This ban includes the following and will remain in effect until
further notice to ensure public safety:
• burning of clean wood and brush
• outdoor campfires
• all outdoor wood burning appliances
• fireworks

Citizens are further reminded that all smokers’ materials should
be fully extinguished before being discarded in proper noncombustible containers.

Trent Lakes Fire Rescue would like to thank all citizens for their
anticipated co-operation during this ban. We would also like to
remind citizens that any person found to be conducting open air
burning in contravention of the ban, is guilty of an offence and
subject to charges being filed in Provincial Offences Court.

We will continue to monitor the weather conditions and issue a
subsequent release when the open air burning ban is
lifted. Citizens may also check www.trentlakes.ca for information

Transfer Station Temporary Operating Process

As Trent Lakes moves forward to re-open additional Transfer Station Services, effective June 29th the following operating processes have been put in place to protect staff and the public’s health.  Transfer Station staff are requested to implement the following processes until further notice.

  1. Residents will be asked to mark their own Waste Card. If they do not have their own pen attendants can provide a sanitized marker for their use. The marker can be dropped in a bucket to be sanitized at the end of the day and reused.
  2. In addition to Interac / Debit payments, residents can pay by cash, using exact change only.  Credit Cards and Cheques  will not be accepted. Loads will be rounded up or down to eliminate change. Receipts will not be issued at this time.
  3. Reuse centres will remain closed until further notice.
  4. Fluorescent tubes and car batteries will be accepted at Bobcaygeon, Cavendish and Crystal Lake Transfer Stations. As the Hazardous Waste Collection site at Buckhorn will remain closed this season, car batteries and fluorescent tubes will not be accepted.
  5. GEEP electronics will reopen at all sites and organics will be accepted at Buckhorn.
  6. Alcohol bottle return will remain closed at this time.
  7.  Construction, demolition material, shingles and drywall and furniture will be accepted and charges as per our Fee Schedule.
  8. There will be no Bulky Plastic Collection this year.
  9. Dry Cell Batteries will not be accepted at this time.
  10. Cottage Kits and Dog Tags can now be purchased at all Transfer Stations.

Public Notice – Disposal of Land

Take Notice That the Council of The Corporation of the Municipality of Trent Lakes proposes to enact a By-law to stop up, close and offer for sale to the abutting property owners:

A portion of an unopened road allowance between Lots 10 and 11, Concession 16, Harvey Ward, adjacent to property municipally known as 113 Sugarbush Boulevard

This by-law will be considered for passage at the Regular meeting of Council held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. Written or verbal comments respecting this proposed disposal of land are to be directed to the Clerk.

Household Hazardous Waste One Day Events

Peterborough County has advised that the Household Hazardous Waste depot at the Buckhorn Waste Transfer Station will not be open in 2020.

They are holding 2 Household Hazardous One Day Events to help residents safely dispose of hazardous materials.
The following events are scheduled for Trent Lakes:

Galway Community Centre – 388 Galway Road, Kinmount
• July 4, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Cavendish Community Centre – 18 Community Complex Dr, County Road 507, Trent Lakes
• July 25, 10:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m.

Please store all materials in their original container and store in a cool dry place until you can bring them to the event. They can only accept household material in containers up to 20L/5gal.

Pido Road Household Hazardous Waste Depot is Open

The Peterborough Household Hazardous Depot at Pido Road Depot, 400 Pido Road, Peterborough is open. The current hours during Covid-19 Pandemic are:
• Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 11am – 4pm
•  Saturday: 10am – 4pm

Household Hazardous Waste includes:
• Aerosols
• Antifreeze
• Automotive fluids
• Batteries (all kinds)
• Cleaners (all kinds)
• Cosmetics/make-up
• Fertilizers
• Fluorescent light bulbs/tubes
• Gasoline
• Glues
• Herbicides
• Ink cartridges
• Mercury containing devices
• Motor oil
• Paint
• Pesticides
• Pet care products
• Pool chemical
• Propane cylinders (100lb/50kg max)

Fire Works Reminder

As Canada Day draws closer residents and visitors are reminded of the rules for the setting off of any Fire Works within the Municipality of Trent Lakes. Fire works are NOT permitted at any of our public beaches.

Remember that pets may be frightened by fire works and could resort to unpredictable “flight” methods. Take extra precautions to ensure they are in a safe place indoors or securely on-leash when outdoors.

No person shall set off fireworks within the Municipality at any time except as follows:

1. New Year’s Eve – between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. the following day;

2. Canada Day- between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on July 1st and the Weekends directly preceding and following it;

3. Civic Holiday – between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on the statutory holiday and the Weekend directly preceding it;

4. Labour Day – between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on the statutory holiday and the Weekend directly preceding it;

No person shall set off any fireworks in, on or onto any building, highway or sidewalk, Municipal park or Municipal property.

We request that you be respectful of neighbours, clean up any of your debris, and behave responsibly while enjoying your evening.

Construction Notice – Beaver Lake Road

Coco Paving has been contracted to perform road restoration operations on Beaver Lake Road.

The Road Restoration Operations will be commencing on the week of June 22nd to August, 22nd for the entirety of the Beaver Lake Road. This will include temporary road closures down to one lane of travel. Coco Paving will be doing their upmost to accommodate residents safely to their homes in a timely manner.

Please drive carefully and be prepared to stop.

The Sandy Lake Cemetery remains open for individuals wishing to access. Please continue to follow social distancing measures and proper hygiene if visiting the Cemetery.

COVID-19 Testing Day in Trent Lakes

Peterborough Public Health, together with the Municipality of Trent Lakes, Peterborough Paramedics and Peterborough Regional Health Centre will be hosting a COVID-19 Testing Day in Buckhorn at the Buckhorn Community Centre – 1782 Lakehurst Road, Buckhorn, on Thursday June 11, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • No appointment necessary
  • Drive-through clinic
  • Please bring your Ontario Health Card with you

Testing is open to permanent and seasonal residents without symptoms.  Those with COVID-19 symptoms, please call 705-876-5086.
