Trent Lakes Municipal Council is receiving applications from citizens of the Municipality of Trent Lakes for appointment to the Economic Development Advisory Committee and the Trent Lakes Public Library Board.

Economic Development Advisory Committee – 2 Vacancies

Term of Appointment: Term of Council (Term ending November 14th, 2022)
Meetings: The committee generally meets on the 2nd Monday of every month at 9:00 a.m. (subject to change)
Mandate: To generate, filter and review ideas, projects and initiatives that will stimulate economic growth and renewal and to assist in the development of strategic and other economic development planning in the community. The Committee will work with Peterborough-Kawartha Economic Development in ensuring their efforts and initiatives help and support Trent Lakes, recommend courses of action, sources for funding and/or additional research opportunities to Council and report on matters referred to it by Council.
Key Qualifications: Citizen Members will be experienced business people with a well-developed business community network, have relevant economic development expertise and experience, represent a broad spectrum of the business/tourism community and be strong proponents of business and tourism growth for the Municipality.

Trent Lakes Public Library Board – 1 Vacancy

Term of Appointment: Term of Council (Term ending November 14th, 2022)
Meetings: The board generally meets on the 2nd Friday of the month at 10:00 a.m. (subject to change) with 7 meetings per year.
Purpose: To govern the affairs of the public library service in the Municipality in a comprehensive and efficient manner in accordance with the Public Libraries Act. The Library Board is the governing body responsible for setting policies, ensuring financial accountability and directing the affairs of the Library.
Key Qualifications: Citizen Members will have relevant board, business or library expertise and experience, represent a broad spectrum of the community and be strong proponents of the public library service.

The Municipality of Trent Lakes has established boards and committees to provide advice and recommendations to Council. Most committees include members of the public and members of Council.

Some advisory committees are provincially legislated, while others are created by Council to address a specific topic or facility. Advisory committees or special project/ad hoc committees may be created on a temporary basis with a specific end date.

Each advisory committee must adhere to a clearly defined Terms of Reference approved by Council. All committees must provide a report to Council at least one per year. They must also post all meeting agendas and minutes online.

The Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee acts as an advisory body to the Municipality of Trent Lakes Council and provides support and advice to applicable Staff relative to enhancing the quality of recreation and culture through a wide range programming, opportunities for physical activity, social interaction and community engagement.

Terms of Reference

The Ontario Planning Act establishes the authority for the Committee of Adjustment to make decisions on minor variances, permissions and consents on property, submitted by the applicant and/or their agent. The Committee of Adjustment is a committee appointed by Council comprised that meet on a regular basis.
