Buckhorn

Buckhorn Regional Health Centre

The Buckhorn Regional Health Centre is a private practice. It is a family practice. If time permits, we would be happy to see tourists and seasonal visitors for acute and/or minor problems only.

If You Require a Family Doctor

The Buckhorn Regional Medical Centre actively carries a waiting list. To get your name on the waiting list, please visit the office and ask for Karen. Once you have completed a form, your name is put on the waiting list. Current wait times are between six and nine months. You are required to be a full time resident of the Municipality of Trent Lakes.

History

This centre was funded entirely from municipal tax dollars. Over $350,000 was raised through the generosity and support of the community. There is ongoing fundraising to provide financial support towards the ongoing costs of the health centre. If you would like to make a donation, please call Karen at the centre or pick up a donation form at the medical centre.

After Hours Clinics

The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care see Family Health Organizations as an important part of our health care system. Enrolled patients must commit to receiving their primary health care from their family physician. If your physician is not available, we ask that you use our after hour clinics and avoid walk in clinics.

There are evening clinics available most evenings for our enrolled patients. To obtain a doctor on call, call our office and listen to the recorded message to the end, have a pen and paper ready. The doctor on call information is updated daily. the clinics are offered Monday to Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and all day Saturday by a physician in our Group. The clinic may be located anywhere within the Greater Peterborough area.

Booking Appointments

When calling for an appointment, please explain briefly the reason for your visit. This ensures the appropriate appointment time has been booked and the appropriate health care professional is notified. If you have forms, let us know so we can inform you of any additional costs. Please come prepared to each and every visit by bringing your prescription renewals, or your list of blood sugars or blood pressures if required. We request 24 hours notice for any appointment cancellations. This will ensure that we can offer the time to another patient in need.

Prescription Renewals

Please check with your pharmacy to see if you have refills before calling us. We require at least 48 hours notice and there is a $15 charge for prescription renewals over the telephone whether requested by you or your pharmacist. We find that many patients still do not realize that there is a cost for this service. You can avoid this extra charge if you request your prescription renewal from your doctor during your office visit.

Uninsured Medical Services

There are a number of services that are not covered by OHOP and must be billed to the patient directly. The most common are:

  • Prescription refill without office visit, $15
  • Transfer of medical records, $35
  • Note for school or work, $10
  • Driver’s medical, $125
  • Travel advice, $50 per person
  • Travel prescriptions with or without an appointment, $15

Medical Test Results

Our office policy is “No news is good news”. If you wish to have your results, please call the office for an appointment to meet with your physician or the nurse practitioner. Our front office staff are not allowed to give results over the phone.
