Municipality of Trent Lakes Celebrates Completion of New Mechanics Facility
August 28, 2025 [TRENT LAKES, ON] – The Municipality of Trent Lakes has officially opened its new mechanics facility, known as the 49 Depot, marking a significant investment in Municipal operations. Community members joined Council and staff on Saturday, August 23, 2025, to tour the newly completed building.
The 19,500-square-foot maintenance and storage facility was first designed in 2017, with construction carried out between August 2023 and November 2024. The additional space brings together Recreation & Facilities and Public Works staff under one roof, improving fleet maintenance and operational efficiency. As the most centrally located depot in the Municipality, staff will be able to respond more quickly when maintaining roads, parks, and community spaces.
The interior includes a mechanical wash bay with mezzanine, warm storage for vehicles and equipment, administration/office space, a lunchroom, washrooms, and vehicle bays. The original depot remains on the property to provide additional storage, and two deteriorating sand domes were replaced with one larger, more durable dome that doubles the capacity.
“The new dedicated mechanics facility will ensure that the trucks and equipment of the Trent Lakes Public Works department will be repaired and maintained in a way that will reduce downtime,” says Evan Grieger, Director of Public Works. “This will ensure that the level of service provided remains high and our roads are kept safe. This facility also provides future opportunities for growth and options to increase overall fleet efficiency.”
The Municipality engaged The Greer Galloway Group Inc. as consulting engineers on the project, and MVW Construction and Engineering as the contractor.
To celebrate the completion, the Municipality hosted a public open house on August 23, where residents were invited to tour the facility between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
During the event, Mayor Terry Lambshead recognized the many contributors to the project, with special acknowledgement to residents of Trent Lakes.
“Thank you to each and every one of our residents who funded this build,” says Mayor Lambshead. “It is the largest tax-funded project in Trent Lakes’ history. It is not only a building, but an investment in our people, our services, and our community’s future.”
A total of 9.8 million dollars were spent to construct the building.
