Lakelands Public Health is urging residents to take precautions to protect against heat-related illnesses as the first heat event arrives coinciding with Canada Day festivities.
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued an “Orange Heat Warning” for most of the region for Tuesday, June 30 through Friday, July 3. Orange Heat Warnings are issued when impacts of the heat are expected to be major and widespread, including extended heat waves or unusually high temperatures for the region. Some areas of the region may be under a Yellow Heat Warning but are still expected to experience extreme heat.
Peterborough, ON – June 29, 2026 – Applications for the Starter Company Plus Program are now open for the upcoming cohort of Starter Company Plus. This highly sought-after grant and education program offers entrepreneurs the essential tools, mentorship, and up to $5,000 in non-repayable funding to take their businesses to the next level. The deadline to apply is August 5, at 11:59 PM.
Please note the Municipal office will be closed on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 for the Canada Day holiday, and will re-open on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
Transfer Stations:
All Transfer Station sites will be CLOSED on Canada Day and will resume regular hours on Thursday, July 2.
Fireworks:
Fireworks are permitted on Canada Day (July 1) - between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., as well as the weekends directly preceding and following it.
Community Care Peterborough is exploring new public transit options in Peterborough County, and they want your input!
Community Care Peterborough, in collaboration with Dillon Consulting Ltd., is completing a study for a potential public transit service across Peterborough County.
This project will identify what solutions are viable to provide new travel options for residents between our many towns, villages, landscapes, and communities.
Lakelands Public Health is launching its annual Beach Water Monitoring Program starting June 15, 2026, helping residents and visitors stay safe while enjoying local beaches across the region.
Throughout the summer, Lakelands Public Health staff will monitor water quality at 76 municipally owned and operated public beaches across the County of Haliburton, City of Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland County, and the City and County of Peterborough. Water samples are tested for E. coli bacteria, an indicator of potential contamination and increased risk of illness.
Construction notice by Peterborough County:
A mill and pave will be completed at the intersection of County Road 36 and Tate's Bay Road/Quarry Road. To facilitate the work, temporary single-lane restrictions will be in place and managed by flagging operations. Motorists should anticipate delays. Please exercise caution in the area and watch for pedestrians, cyclists, and road workers. Emergency vehicles will be given priority access through the construction zone.

The municipal office will be closed on Monday, May 18, 2026 for Victoria Day and will re-open on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
Transfer Stations
All Transfer Stations will be open on Victoria Day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
