The program is open for applications each year between November to January. The applications are brought forward to Trent Lakes Municipal Council, where an evaluation matrix is used to help determine which organizations are awarded and how to fairly distribute the funds.
In 2025, community groups Cavendish Community Ratepayers Association (CCRAI) and Citizens for Alternative Transportation (CATTL) came together to host a collaborative workshop through grant funds. With a shared goal in making the roads in Trent Lakes safer for both people and nature, over 20 community members generated ideas and solutions to implement into the future.
“We were grateful to receive a grant and the support of CCRAI that made it possible for CATTL to host this event,” says Karen Shearer, community member of CATTL. “We are thrilled with both the number of participants and the quality of the discussions. It was impressive how much we accomplished in just two hours. This is where change happens!”
In the past 12 years, the municipality has been able to provide over 200 grants to organizations and groups through this program.
“Trent Lakes is very fortunate to have many residents who volunteer their time and energy to make our community stronger and better," says Carol Armstrong, Deputy Mayor for the Municipality of Trent Lakes. “They help those less fortunate and in need, they strengthen our economy, they protect and preserve our environment and heritage, and they support activities for our youth and seniors. Our municipality is proud to be a leader in supporting volunteer efforts through community grants.”
