Blue Box Recycling

The Municipality of Trent Lakes  operates a two-stream Blue Box Program, with material sorted into Fibres and Containers. As there is no curbside pick-up in Trent Lakes, residents are required to bring their sorted Blue Box material to one of the four Transfer Stations.

Blue Box Program Transition

As of 2026 Ontario’s Blue Box Program has transitioned into a Producer Responsibility Framework. This means that the financial burden associated with recycling will now fall to the producer of the packaging as opposed to the consumer. Many producers have opted to pool their resources and contract a Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) to manage this new responsibility on their behalf.

The Municipality of Trent Lakes has partnered with Circular Materials, a PRO that will be managing much of Ontario’s Blue Box Program. Trent Lakes will continue to take care of operations at the Transfer Stations while Circular Materials will provide compensation, customer assistance, and contractor relations.

Recycling Instructions

Before placing your blue box material into your recycling bin, please:

  • Empty and rinse all containers. Material with too much food residue cannot be recycled.
  • Flatten all boxes and avoid placing cardboard that has been heavily saturated with water or food oils in the recycling.
  • Place all plastic bags in one bag and tie closed. Please see our Film Plastic Recycling Sheet for more information.
